Construction on a new community centre in Blackbird Leys, a residential estate in Oxford, has begun after a groundbreaking ceremony last week.

In December the final stages of preparation work for the project began, as the former swimming pool located on the site was demolished, leading into January where the removal of materials and preparation of the ground took place. Now, the foundations of the building are now being worked on, and the building is expected to be ready for interior fitting by the end of summer 2027.

The redevelopment is being delivered by Peabody and construction partner, The Hill Group in partnership with Oxford City Council. The redeveloped community centre is expected to provide offices, halls and other spaces for the local community to use. In addition to the building there will also be a new public square, with play areas for children, a rain garden, and public art.

In addition to the community centre, another phase of regeneration in Blackbird Leys will bring affordable new homes across Knights road and the District Centre.
