The Hammersmith and Fulham planning committee has given the green light to a significant redevelopment project in the White City Central area.
This ambitious plan aims to transform the region by providing new homes and enhancing local infrastructure. Chaired by Omed Miry, the planning and development control committee meeting focused on the proposal’s key elements, including the construction of 253 residential units, a community centre, and nursery facilities. A substantial portion of these homes will be designated as affordable housing, addressing the pressing need for accessible living spaces in the area.
The redevelopment involves the demolition of existing structures and the erection of eight new buildings, ranging from one to six storeys. These will accommodate the residential units, a children’s day nursery, and a community centre, alongside essential amenities such as refuse storage, cycle parking, and Blue Badge car parking. The project also promises an all-weather games pitch, outdoor children’s play facilities, and newly landscaped public open spaces, fostering a vibrant community environment.
Located within the expansive 110-hectare White City Regeneration Area, the development is strategically positioned near Shepherds Bush Town Centre, the BBC, and Queens Park Rangers Football Club. The focus is on sites east of Wood Lane and north of Westfield London shopping centre, including the BBC Television Centre. The initiative aims to attract new homes and jobs, particularly in creative industries and biomedical research, while improving pedestrian and cycling connections.
Importantly, no existing homes will be demolished; the project solely involves new construction. The council, as the freeholder and lead developer, ensures no private developers are involved. The project is divided into two phases, with the first phase expected to complete by Winter 2027, delivering community facilities and outdoor spaces. The second phase, focusing on affordable homes, is slated for completion in 2029. This development represents a significant step towards creating a mixed and balanced community, with residents playing a crucial role in designing new facilities and spaces.
