Hounslow Council has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling climate change, emphasising ambitious plans to cut carbon emissions for the benefit of residents, communities, and the local economy.

The Council’s cabinet recently approved plans for low-carbon energy infrastructure, including a Heat Network to provide cleaner heating across Hounslow. The Climate Emergency Action Plan 2026-2030 outlines strategic priorities for the next five years, building on progress since the climate emergency declaration in 2019 and the original action plan in 2020. The Plan focuses on four key priorities: decarbonising Council operations to achieve net zero by 2030, influencing borough-wide emissions reduction, enhancing resilience to climate change impacts, and promoting sustainable lifestyles.

To achieve these goals, the Council will establish a Strategic Energy Partnership with an external partner to bring expertise and investment.

Additionally, plans for a borough-wide Heat Network will utilize waste heat from Thames Water Mogden Sewage Treatment Works, reducing fossil fuel reliance, cutting emissions, improving air quality, and supporting energy affordability.

Councillor Katherine Dunne highlighted the decision’s impact on improving everyday life in Hounslow, from efficient buildings to future preparedness. The updated Action Plan aims to cut costs, attract investment, and support sustainable growth, delivering practical benefits for residents and businesses. It also aligns with broader priorities like sustainable travel, community energy initiatives, and enhancing green spaces.

Overall, the Council’s efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to creating a greener, more resilient, and thriving borough.
