A screening opinion request to Guildford Borough Council has revealed details of the major redevelopment of an army barracks.
Lang O’Rourke has applied, through WSP, for an opinion on whether an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required for plans to re-develop the Alexander Barracks at the 50.5-hectare Pirbright Camp.
The scheme proposes 17,550 sq m of new living accommodation and 11,900 sq m of other buildings. A total of 2,480 sq m of the scheme will be through Permitted Development.
It will require around 15,000 sq m of demolition.
The development is designed to allow for an increase in the projected number of recruits to be accommodated at the site at any one time.
Plans include four new car parks, refurbishment of its training wing, laundry block, remedial gym, medical and dental block and staff leadership school.
