Plans to restore and regenerate buildings in Oxford city centre have been approved.

All Souls College has been granted planning permission and listed building consent for its project to redevelop and revitalise 10-15 High Street, to bring about teaching and research space on the upper floors while improving retail space on the ground floors. The site backs onto, and allows access to, the Covered Market.

Designs drawn up by architects at Wright & Wright create space for fellow studies, staff offices, and lecture, seminar and meeting space to ease the space constraints on the main college.

The scheme seeks to improve the condition of the retail spaces and optimise their flexibility.

In addition, the plans offer high levels of insulation and airtightness with high performance glazing, highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems and renewable energy sources where possible. Healthy building accreditations will be targeted.

Prof Sir John Vickers, warden of All Souls College, said: “We are delighted to have received planning permission and listed building consent for our proposals to revitalise the properties at 10-15 High Street.

“The inspiring design by Wright & Wright blends tradition with innovation while achieving high levels of sustainability. By investing in well-designed teaching, research and retail spaces in this way, we will be able to advance our academic mission in a manner that is also good for our historic city and its economic vibrancy.”
