Marshall has revealed their plans for a new East Cambridge community, Marleigh, which will include 1,300 homes, a school, market square, woodland walks and other amenities for residents to enjoy

The joint project between Marshall and developer Hill Group is located three miles east of the Cambridge city centre, north of the airport and off Newmarket Road.

The two companies are already in the process of building 547 houses as part of the development and are now looking to start the second phase of the development by submitting a planning application for a further 417 houses by the end of this year.

Building work is estimated to start in the middle of next year for this second phase of homes, with work already well underway on the first phase.

When completed the development will also have a market square, primary school and community centre.

Public parks, open spaces, woodland walks, public art displays and allotments are also planned for the site

The second phase requires outline planning and a reserved matter planning application for 417 homes to be submitted later this year, with plans to start on the site in mid-2021.

Marshall also owns Cambridge Airport, where their main aerospace operations are based. That site is also due to become a large residential and commercial development in 2030, while the company currently plans to move to an airstrip in Bedfordshire.

Andy Hill, chief executive of Hill Group, said: “We are delighted to continue our successful partnership with the Marshall Group to deliver the next instalment of this innovative new neighbourhood.

“As two-family run, Cambridge companies, we share the same vision and commitment to building inspiring and sustainable communities, which will stand the test of time. Marleigh marks the first step in the creation of a new landmark district which will transform East Cambridge and we are proud to play a part in that legacy.”

And Richard Howe, managing director of Marshall Group Properties, added: “We are pleased to be extending our partnership with Hill Group to deliver this important second phase of Marleigh. The first phase is already well underway, and we are excited that the first residents of Marleigh will soon move into their new homes.
