Plans have been submitted for a new data centre next to a larger consented one at the former Didcot Power Station.
Amazon Data Services has applied to Vale of White Horse District Council to build a two-storey centre of 1,936 sq m on a 0.72-hectare site in the south-east area of RWE Generation’s 197,000 sq m Didcot Data Campus which was approved in July.
Two buildings, one vacant and one currently used as a technical support centre for RWE, are on the site along with a car park.
The newly-proposed centre will be a data repository which requires much less power than typical data centres and minimal cooling.
The team on the project includes Lichfields on planning, MCA on architecture and SLR on transport.
