Consultation has begun over plans to rethink developer contributions in Suffolk.

Suffolk County Council has reviewed its Developers Guide to Infrastructure Contributions, first published in 2011 and occasionally updated, with a new focus on early years childcare settings, education costs, libraries, and waste infrastructure contributions.

Developers are now being offered the chance to have input into the new guide.

Cllr Chris Chambers, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for transport strategy, planning and waste, said: “When significant developments are proposed, they will have an impact on local infrastructure and services that the county council provides.

“For example a new housing development will have impacts on school places, local roads, libraries, waste collection, flood risks, fire and rescue service response, and much more.

“In line with the National Planning Policy Framework it is accepted that developers will financially support the county council to absorb these impacts and enable us to provide the infrastructure to support growth.

“Our guide is there to support developers work through all the different effects of their proposal and provide suitable guidance on the financial impacts to the council. This consultation asks for views on particular associated costs and methodologies.”

The current version of the guide and a link to the consultation can be found here.

The consultation runs until June 9.
