Proposals for the new Hillingdon Hospital got a massive boost at Hillingdon Council’s Major Planning Committee on 18 January 2023 when they resolved to grant approval for the plans.

The plans set out a new state-of-the-art facility for the people of Hillingdon and beyond that will support the very best of modern healthcare. The new hospital will have the same mix of services as available now at Hillingdon Hospital, be built in the same location (next to the existing hospital) and services will remain open during construction.

Following the council’s decision to grant resolution for approval, the planning application will be referred to the Mayor of London.

The Trust is awaiting final confirmation of funding for the plans from central government.

Matthew Swindells, chair in common for north west London Acute Provider Collaborative said:

“We’re all delighted that Hillingdon Council has made this decision which is a major boost for our patients, staff and the people of Hillingdon in our ongoing campaign.

A new Hillingdon Hospital would be a state-of-the-art new building that will give patients and staff the facility they deserve.

There’s still a great deal of work to do to win funding for the new hospital, so please do keep giving us your support and getting involved.”

Senior responsible officer for the Hillingdon Hospital redevelopment, Jason Seez, said:

“This is great news for local people, our patients and our staff. We really want to thank everyone for coming forward to support us, ask questions and give their feedback.

We are still awaiting final confirmation of funding from central government. Concerning our planning application, we will now go to the Mayor of London for final approval.”

Clinical director for the redevelopment, Professor Abbas Khakoo, added:

“This is a very important step forward for everyone who wants to see a new Hillingdon Hospital. We are really grateful to everyone who has supported our plans, come to see us at events and given us their views.

There is still work to be done – especially as we continue to develop our plans in more detail – so please keep letting us know your views and giving us feedback.”
