Initial consultation over Oxford United’s plans to move to Stratfield Brake has closed with 3,500 responses received.

It follows the January 18 deferral of a decision on whether landowner Oxfordshire County Council should open negotiations with the club for a 250-year lease. The club’s current lease at the Kassam Stadium ends in 2026.

In a statement after the consultation ended, the club said: “The club would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the online survey, whether they were United fans, local residents or stakeholders in the proposed site.

“We have consistently said that we welcome viewpoints from the whole community, want to understand the priorities of local residents as well as our fans and we have found the process very useful in this regard.

“We hope that the feedback helps the council see the whole picture on what we believe would be a fantastic opportunity for Kidlington and Oxfordshire as a whole, not just the club.

“The next stage is for that information to be processed and reviewed ahead of the next scheduled cabinet meeting on March 15.

“In the meantime we welcome further feedback via our usual channels and we will continue to answer these questions in regular themed FAQ briefings on the official website, with these to then be distributed in printed form in the next few weeks.”
