Plans have been submitted to convert sections of Abbey Gardens offices in Reading into housing under Permitted Development Rights (PDR).

McGrath Group has applied to Reading Borough Council to convert sections to the west and around the centre of the 1980s building on the corner of King’s Road and Abbey Street into 92 one and two-bedroom flats. It largely affects the second to fifth floors.

A report by geotechnical and environmental consultants GW within the application states there may be a need to remove asbestos from the building.

Other members of the project team include HGH on planning, SADA Architecture, EAS on flood risk and Markides Associates on transport.
