Persimmon Homes Suffolk has recently acquired land at Eriswell Road, Lakenheath, marking the beginning of a new housing development following the approval of Reserved Matters.

The project includes the construction of 139 homes, 42 of which are designated as affordable housing.

A key aspect of this development is its focus on sustainability. Each home will be fitted with air source heat pumps and is designed to support green technologies, including provisions for electric vehicle charging.

An important ecological initiative associated with this project is the creation of a new 2.33ha offsite Breckland habitat near Foxhole Heath SSSI, aimed at supporting the local stone curlew bird population and other wildlife. This habitat will be a significant addition to the local ecology and will be managed for the long term.

Ian Hamilton, Managing Director of Suffolk region said: “We’re delighted to have received the approval from councillors for our high-quality scheme at Lakenheath.”

“We’re proud of the environmental benefits our scheme will offer and we also know that this site will make an important contribution to meeting the local housing needs of the area, helping families and first-time buyers to get their dream home.”

In addition to its environmental focus, the development plans to contribute to local community needs.

This includes investments in schools and improvements to local highways. The construction phase is expected to generate 262 new jobs, with 111 of these being directly on site.

The first homes in this development are slated to be ready by next year, introducing a new era of sustainable living in Lakenheath.
