Persimmon Homes’ plans for 139 properties at Lakenheath, Suffolk have been given the approval by councillors on West Suffolk Council.

The reserved matters application was approved by the development control committee on November 1.

The scheme, put forward by the developer’s Suffolk region, has air source heat pumps in every home, more than 200 new trees planted on site and the creation of a new 2.33-hectare offsite Breckland habitat for priority bird species and other wildlife.

The habitat at Gallow Bottom has been designed specifically for the stone curlew bird population but will also provide wider ecological benefits to local wildlife.

Ian Hamilton, managing director of the Suffolk region, said: “We’re delighted to have received the approval from councillors for our high-quality scheme at Lakenheath.

“We’re proud of the environmental benefits our scheme will offer and we also know that this site will make an important contribution to meeting the local housing needs of the area, helping families and first-time buyers to get their dream home.

“Lakenheath is an important site for us and so we will be looking to start construction work right away.”
