Plans for a 500,000 sq ft logistics development by Pigeon on the A12 at Chelmsford have been approved following a successful appeal for non-determination lodged in July 2025.
The new employment park will be known as Columba Park and is expected to create 1,350 jobs when operational, generating £46.7 million in gross value added (GVA) annually for the regional economy.
The site is allocated for employment use in Chelmsford City Council’s emerging Local Plan.
Hugh French, director in the development team at Pigeon, said: “This is a significant scheme for Chelmsford and the wider region, and one that will deliver long-term economic growth along a key strategic route in the East of England.
“While the consent has been secured at appeal, Columba Park aligns squarely with Chelmsford City Council’s emerging Local Plan ambitions. We look forward to working constructively with the Council and other stakeholders as the scheme progresses.”
Will van Cutsem, joint chairman at Pigeon, said: “Columba Park at Sandon is characteristic of Pigeon’s approach to development. The process has demonstrated a diligent, meticulous and pragmatic approach by the project team to get the right result.”
