Following ongoing concerns about the now-crumbling reinforced autoclaved aerated concreate (RAAC) used at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) in Gorleston, plans have been submitted to rebuild it.

The JPUH serves as many as 250,000 people across Great Yarmouth and Waveney. The new state of the art hospital could accommodate 630 beds which is 80 more than its current capacity. Bringing the new hospital in line with international standards, the new wards will all have single-bedroom en-suites.

The Future Paget Programme engaged Meeting Place to undertake community consultation. 228 residents, staff and stakeholders attended across five sessions whilst a targeted social media campaign reached 62,000 local residents.

Works are estimated to start in 2027 or 2028, with a total project cost in the region of £1.5 billion.
