The funding is comprised of a total transport capital grant of £33.7m and a revenue grant of £4.9m, once the funding is confirmed, the Council can set out the projects and initiatives to be prioritised over the next four years.
How funding will be used
The New Local Transport Delivery Plan, created by the Council, sets out how funding will be used from 2026 until 2030. Next week it will be initially presented to the Councils Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport committee , it will be submitted to the Department for Transport if the Council grants approval.
Priorities for funding include starting new projects, such as changes to the Sidmouth Street highway layout, and progressing existing schemes, such as delivering bus priority measures.
The plan also outlines achievements the Council has made, such as the opening of Reading Green Park station, redevelopment of Reading West station, and the Reading All-Bus multi-operator ticket scheme.

Councillor John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said “I welcome the new finance arrangements from Government” he said they provided ‘longer-term certainty’ and ‘more flexibility’ for the Council.
