Reading’s former Crowne Plaza Hotel is to reopen under the Village Hotel Club brand.
Village Hotel Club, a 33-strong hotel and leisure club operator, acquired the site at Caversham Bridge last year and plans an extensive refurbishment.
It closed as a Crowne Plaza at the end of 2024. In a multi-million pound investment, Village’s ‘everything under one roof’ concept will include its Pub & Grill offer, meetings and events space, a Starbucks coffee shop and state-of-the-art health & wellness facilities.
The plans are part of a wider investment programme, launched in September.
As well as looking to acquire new hotels, Village will upgrade more than half its portfolio, which will include extensions to bedrooms and other facilities, refurbishments to existing bedrooms and upgraded leisure and fitness offers. Ultra rapid electric vehicle charge points will also be installed across all Village’s 33 UK locations.
Gary Davis, chief executive of Village Hotel Club, said: “We are delighted to take ownership of our new site in Reading. Building on our successful conversion in Bracknell, the acquisition is another example of significant investment in the area and creates an opportunity to bring our unique and differentiated proposition to guests and local audiences alike.”
CBRE advised on the sale of the hotel on behalf of Brightbay Real Estate Partners, an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group.
