Bicester Motion has submitted plans to restore and regenerate office buildings which date back almost 100 years.
Buildings 146 and 147, opened in 1926 as The Station Offices at the gateway to what is now the Technical Site, which have declined in recent years, will be turned into 9,536 sq ft of modern head office workspace, designed specifically for automotive and aviation brands.
The two-storey connected brick structures were originally RAF Bicester’s operations block and acted as the RAF station’s working office where day-to-day administration was carried out.
The buildings featured prominently in Queen Elizabeth II’s tour of RAF Bicester in 1965, an event that was celebrated 60 years on at Bicester Motion’s Scramble event in April.
In keeping with the rest of the Bicester Motion Technical Site, industrial materials and features will be used.
Daniel Geoghegan, chief executive of Bicester Motion, said: “As with all our investment into restoring the former RAF buildings on site, 146/147 have fallen into disrepair and require renovation and redevelopment to sensitively retain the existing exterior fabric and provide enhanced commercial space amenity.
“As we continue to attract a thriving community of pioneering automotive and aviation brands, our proposed restoration will answer the demand from companies for flexible, exceptional and contemporary HQ space in a prominent position within our estate.”
Anderson Orr, Edgars, OMK Design Consultancy, Nicholsons, CBG Consultants, Worlledge Associates, IKS Consulting, Motion, Aurochs Ecology and Higginson Associates acted on behalf of Bicester Motion.
