Riverwell Square has been unveiled as the new central point in the regeneration of part of Watford town centre.
The borough council and Kier, have jointly announced the name of the new public amenity space which will also have a 131-room Travelodge, a Tesco and a Greggs.
The joint venture is an ongoing regeneration of 70 acres of former industrial land in the town. Red Construction has been appointed main contractor for the scheme and work is imminent.
Leigh Thomas, group managing director for Kier Property, said: “The creation and naming of this new public amenity space Riverwell Square marks a major milestone in our journey to create a thriving riverside community.
“The addition of Travelodge, Tesco and Greggs will bring life and convenience to the area, supporting both our new and existing communities.”
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Riverwell Square is a cornerstone of our shared vision with the joint venture to create a high-quality, sustainable neighbourhood where people can live, work and socialise.
“The mix of retail, leisure and hospitality will create a dynamic hub that reflects the ambition and scale of the Riverwell regeneration project.”
