Two schemes for a total of up to 584 homes failed to gain consent from councillors in West Oxfordshire.

The district council’s lowlands area planning sub-committee refused permission for up to 450 homes across two parcels of agricultural land – known as Cogges Triangle and Cogges South – to the east of Witney (pictured) proposed by Mawle trustees and trustees of Northfield Life Interest, at its May 30 meeting.

The decision followed an officers’ recommendation to refuse.

At the same meeting Catesby Strategic Land’s fiercely-contested proposal for up to 134 homes on land south of Burford Road in Minster Lovell was deferred until after a site visit. It had been recommended for approval.

The Mawle/Northfield scheme was planned by Carter Jonas while the Catesby scheme was planned by Walsingham Planning.
