Councillors have approved outline plans for a new science, library & partnerships building at Magdelen College School in Oxford.
The scheme, designed by a team led by Walters & Cohen Architects, was approved by Oxford City Council’s planning committee on December 9.
The proposed building will use sustainable construction techniques and introduce enhanced landscaping and conservation zones. Detailed plans will now be drawn up but the development is unlikely to be complete before 2030.
School master Helen Pike said: “Our new science, library & partnerships building will enable us to build on our centuries-old academic reputation by enhancing facilities for our own pupils and amplifying our support for education across the wider Oxford community and beyond.
“It will stand as the centrepiece of our commitment to science partnership teaching, and create an environment in which future Nobel Prize winners and innovators can begin their careers.
“Securing planning consent would not have been possible without the support of our design team, whose expertise and vision has helped us create a building of which we can all be proud.”
