Two key planning documents are out for consultation in Watford which could shape the future of the borough.

Watford Borough Council has published Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD), one which will guide developer contributions for affordable housing and one to define required standards of co-living accommodation.

The Affordable Housing: Developer Contributions SPD seeks to:

  • Clarify how financial contributions towards off-site affordable housing will be calculated.
  • Introduce a method for late-stage viability reviews to ensure developments deliver the maximum public benefit.
  • Address viability challenges that have previously led to reduced levels of affordable housing.

Meanwhile the Co-living: Standards and Requirements SPD sets out:

  • Minimum standards that all co-living schemes must meet.
  • Design expectations to ensure developments enhance both new and existing communities.
  • Quality of life considerations.

Both documents can be seen here. The deadline for comments: is 5pm on March 20.
