Plans by Maidenhead United to build a new football stadium at Braywick Park have been revived.
Negotiations with the Royal Borough over the past year have prompted the club to announce a new option to move to a different part of the park than previously agreed.
Councillors had approved in principle a new stadium for the club at the site of the athletics track at Braywick Park (bottom of image) in December 2019.
A 999-year lease at a cost of just £460,000 was agreed in April 2022 but later that decision was reversed after the council’s place overview and scrutiny panel forced a rethink.
Now a separate part of the park is earmarked for the new ground (top of image) and a new dedicated website for it has gone live.
Events at the club and a pop-up event at Braywick Leisure Centre on December 13 have been held and the club is encouraging more feedback.
Chief executive Jon Adams said: “I am pleased that we have reached a stage where we are able to share more information on our future ambitions.
“Although we are still at an early stage, this is a significant milestone, and I would like to thank the Royal Borough for their engagement with us over the past year.”
Maidenhead MP Joshua Reynolds said: “Over the past few months, I have been engaging with Maidenhead United Football Club on their ambitions to grow and continue to deliver social and economic benefits for our community.
“Although we are at an early stage in the process, I am encouraged by the belief that there is a solution which addresses our concerns while also safeguarding and supporting the future of Maidenhead United.
“I look forward to continued collaboration with Maidenhead United over the weeks and months ahead.”
