Battersea Power Station is advancing its redevelopment by appointing Studio Egret West as the master planner, urban designer, and landscape architect for the remaining 16 acres of the riverside neighbourhood.

This area has outline planning permission for 3.2 million sq ft of new residential, commercial, cultural, and leisure spaces. Studio Egret West will update Rafael Viñoly’s original masterplan to align with modern lifestyle and workspace expectations.

The project aims to complete the mixed-use neighbourhood centred on the iconic Grade II* listed landmark, which has attracted over 40 million visitors since its 2022 opening.

The redevelopment, which began after the site lay derelict for nearly three decades, has already transformed the area with over 2,200 homes, 800,000 sq. ft of office space, a new Zone 1 Underground station, and over 150 retail, dining, and leisure experiences. The final phases will connect to the new Nine Elms Park and include two Gehry-designed buildings to complete Electric Boulevard.Additionally, a partnership with Wandsworth Council aims to deliver around 200 new council homes.

Tan Sri Shahril Ridza Ridzuan, chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company, emphasized the need to adapt the plans to current urban living: “The way cities function has shifted dramatically since 2012…now is a critical time to reflect on the original plans and fine tune them to better support how people now live, work and spend their leisure time in the city.”

David West, founding director of Studio Egret West, expressed excitement about the project: “Battersea Power Station is one of London’s most extraordinary regeneration stories, and Studio Egret West is delighted to play a part in shaping its next chapter.”

The project is supported by Malaysian shareholders, including S P Setia, Sime Darby Property, and the Employees’ Provident Fund, as well as long-term commercial asset holders Permodalan Nasional Berhad and EPF.
