A Grade II*-listed country house has been brought to market by Savills.

The British Horological Institute has instructed the property giant to market Upton Hall, its head office building, for offers in the region of £2.3 million.

Records show the 21,000 sq ft home goes back many hundreds of years. By the early 1300s, it was used as the residence of Robert Bagenham bit it is predominantly an early 19th Century traditional brick construction incorporating medieval and 17th Century elements.

The house is arranged over a basement and two storeys and sits on a substantial landscaped plot with a variety of mature trees. There is a car park and access to the 5,000 sq ft former stable block which could be converted to a garage, workshops, fitness suite, small offices or into a separate residence with access via the existing disused entrance off Hockerton Lane.

Its location in Main Street, Upton is the focal point of the Upton conservation area, about two miles from Southwell.

Victor Ktori, head of the commercial department at Savills Nottingham, said: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful country house with a unique history on well landscaped grounds. It is the first time in over 50 years Upton Hall is offered to the market and so we expect it will attract a range of buyers from owner occupiers to investors looking at uses including residential, hotel, wellness and other leisure interests.”
