The HS2 project is set to significantly impact Hammersmith, transforming Old Oak Common into a major transport hub.

The tunnelling work, which connects Old Oak Common to Euston, marks a crucial phase in the project, promising enhanced connectivity for local residents traveling to central London.

This development is expected to drive economic growth, with projections of adding £10 billion to West London’s economy over the next decade. Additionally, the project will facilitate the construction of 22,000 new homes and create 19,000 permanent jobs, further boosting the local economy.

Cllr Stephen Cowan, leader of Hammersmith & Fulham, emphasized the importance of HS2, stating, “This crucial leg of HS2 underlines how Old Oak Common is being transformed into one of London’s most important transport hubs.”

The project aligns with the Upstream London inclusive growth strategy, which aims to position Hammersmith & Fulham as a global economic hotspot in future-shaping industries.

Moreover, the HS2 project is committed to ecological improvements, contributing £3.8 million to enhance Wormwood Scrubs. This includes plans for new ponds, meadows, and grasslands to boost biodiversity, developed in consultation with local residents and approved by the Wormwood Scrubs Charitable Trust.

Overall, the HS2 project is not only a transportation milestone but also a catalyst for economic and environmental advancements in Hammersmith, promising improved infrastructure, increased investment, and a commitment to sustainable development.
