The Biodiversity Action Plan, approved by the Wandsworth Cabinet, outlines actions from 2026 to 2031 to achieve the goals of Wandsworth’s Biodiversity Strategy.
It features measurable targets, habitat creation projects, and tools to engage the community in enhancing biodiversity. The plan, known as Wild Wandsworth, is structured around three core themes: ensuring fair access to nature, fostering community-driven improvements, and delivering effective, evidence-based results.
These themes aim to make nature accessible to all, involve local residents in ecological projects, and improve habitat health through rigorous monitoring. Community input significantly shaped the plan, with over 240 participants contributing through surveys and events. Feedback emphasised the need for practical actions, new habitats, improved green corridors, and more opportunities for nature connection.
Paul White, cabinet member for environment, stated, “Our new Biodiversity Action Plan sets out clear, practical steps that we can take together to restore habitats, protect wildlife and bring nature closer to everyone in Wandsworth.”
Building on progress since 2020, the plan has already created over 2.2 hectares of new habitats, planted more than 2,600 street trees, and engaged hundreds of volunteers. As of September 2025, 74% of Local Wildlife Sites are positively managed for biodiversity, and Wandsworth’s parks have improved significantly in quality rankings.
Residents, schools, and community groups are encouraged to participate in the Wild Wandsworth plan through activities such as planting and supporting species. A new online biodiversity hub will provide resources and event information.
