An outline planning application for the development of up to 100 residential dwellings was unanimously refused at last week’s South Cambridgeshire District Council planning committee meeting.

The application was made by Endurance Estates Land Promotion, alongside the Landowners, for Land Off Horseheath Road in Linton.  After Linton Parish Council called in the application to be presented to the committee, and a site visit on July 1, the application was heard last Wednesday.

The refusal vote aligned with the planning officer’s recommendation.

Reasons for refusal included the proposals’ location being situated upon undeveloped agricultural land outside of Linton, which was assessed to be a development in open countryside not justified by either nature or function, causing a conflict with the existing spatial approach to growth for the area – which is currently to concentrate development in areas of existing settlements.

The development was also considered to be a: “Harmful urbanising influence” upon the rural landscape, and would ‘erode’ Lintons established setting by affecting its visual amenities.

Alongside this there would also have been a loss of approximately 6.76 hectares of agricultural land if the proposal was successful, with no justification made to outweigh the harm caused.
