Plans for 231 flats in Slough have been recommended for refusal.
Slough Borough Council’s planning committee will consider plans by Mackenzie (South West) Homes to build six blocks along the A4 Bath Road, which vary in height from five to nine storeys with links between them of two and three storeys, at its June 25 meeting.
However, officers have recommended refusal for three reasons:
- Over development of the site
- Height, scale and massing
- Lack of an appropriate s106 agreement
The proposals, put forward by Turley, seek to build the scheme of studios and one, two and three-bedroom flats in two phases after the demolition of existing buildings on the site at 324-372 Bath Road.
The application has been amended three times since its initial proposal for 301 flats on the 1.28-hectare site at the junction with Burnham Lane.
The current proposed scheme plans 185 sq m of commercial use at the ground floor along with 168 car parking spaces, two car club spaces and 247 cycle spaces, which includes 14 for visitors.
The applicant has divided the site into site A and site B for its two phases.
Site A, which has been cleared, was previously a bathroom showroom and car sales showroom while Site B currently comprises two car rental companies, two car sales businesses, a café, off licence, blinds/curtains showroom, a kitchen showroom and an accountants’ office with the upper floors used for residential.
As well as Turley, the team on the project includes TP Bennett on architecture, WSP on landscape architecture and Caneparo Associates as transport consultant.
