Plans to replace a 1970s office building in Basingstoke with 326 Build-to-Rent flats go before councillors next week with a recommendation for approval.
Plans by Packaged Living and Buccleuch Property (Basingstoke) to demolish View Point at Basing View, described in their application as a ‘1970s precast concrete brutalist office building’ (see image below) and replace it with the BTR scheme, will be considered by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s development management committee on May 28.
The current L-shaped building ranges in height from four to seven storeys with a square, three-storey pavilion in front on a 0.8-hectare site at the junction of Basing View North and Basing View South.
Its replacement would have up to 15 storeys and provide 659 sq m of commercial co-working space and 3,856 sq m of outdoor amenity space, as well as 384 sq m of indoor amenity space. There will be 326 cycle parking spaces and 124 spaces for cars plus three car club spaces.
The site is close to the former Mountbatten House, now called Plant, a celebrated 1970s office building, which is Grade II-listed and has recently undergone considerable refurbishment.
The team on the View Point project includes Turley on planning, economic benefits assessment and the heritage townscape and visual impact assessment, Wittham Cox on design and Re-Form on landscaping.
