A scoping request has revealed plans for up to 400 homes on the site of a former printworks, which produced banknotes, and a neighbouring water treatment plant.
The former Overton Paper Mills site at Overton, Hampshire run by Portals Paper, closed in 2022 after 100 years at that location and 300 years in business.
The business suffered hugely as a result of lockdown and the reduced use of cash.
Now Land Investment Projects and Portals Paper have jointly submitted a scoping request, via environmental consultant Trium, to Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council over the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment, ahead of a planning application.
The outline plans will seek to develop both the paper mill site and the site of a former water treatment works.
Combined, the two sites, which are divided by the West of England mainline, total 23.96 hectares with Overton station serving both.
Buildings in the proposed development will be up to four storeys in height with vehicle access at two points, both on Station Road, one for each land parcel. There will be up to 13 hectares of green infrastructure and play areas.
