Countrywide’s plans for 434 homes to replace the former Magnet Leisure Centre at Maidenhead have been approved by the Royal Borough.

Work in the scheme, in St Cloud Way, will start early next year after the council’s Maidenhead development management committee voted five-four in favour of supporting the officers’ recommendation to approve on December 15.

The development of five buildings, ranging from four to 11 storeys, is a joint venture between the developer and the council. It will have 346 car parking spaces.

The scheme will include landscaping which will link to the existing Kidwells Park area, improvements to the public realm and a new pedestrian link to the town centre.

The leisure centre has already been replaced by the Braywick Leisure Centre which opened in September 2020.

The team on the St Cloud Way project includes Metropolitan Workshop as architect and Barton Willmore on planning.
