Fenland District Council has approved 93 dwellings and five hectares of open space on Wenny Road, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire.
This is the first phase to be approved within the housing allocation at Wenny Road as set out in the Adopted Fenland Local Plan 2014 and adopted Broad Concept Plan for the site.
The scheme was highly contentious, with over 500 local objections.
Pegasus Group, on behalf of Cannon Kirk Homes, worked closely with planning officers to respond to concerns raised during the determination process.
The five-hectare open space allocation represents a 250 per cent overprovision against the required open space policy requirement.
Andrew Hodgson, senior director at Pegasus Group said: “Development proposals often give rise to strong views and there is no doubt that this proposal was viewed contentiously by members of the public.
“However, it’s on schemes sites where we know that with our expert understanding we can add significant value both for our client and for the public.
“By facilitating engagement and maintaining a collaborative discourse, we have been able to reach a scheme that brings about the best solution for the site, providing much-needed new homes as well as wider benefits for the community.”
