Plans have been submitted for a major link road to the south and east of Aylesbury to serve the town’s anticipated growth.
A planning application for the South East Aylesbury Link Road (SEALR), has been drawn up by Buckinghamshire Council and submitted to its own planning department.
The application’s planning statement by AECOM states the road is required because realignment of the A4010 (Stoke Mandeville bypass), necessary to allow for HS2, has caused congestion at the Aylesbury gyratory.
The proposed 1.2km stretch of dual carriageway forms part of the wider Aylesbury Transport Strategy and will link the A413 Wendover Road and the B4443 Lower Road with new roundabouts.
There will be a new railway bridge at Stoke Mandeville and new footpath and cycleway connections.
The strategy aims to take traffic away from the town centre and allow new public transport priority on the main radial roads. The infrastructure forms part of the proposed Aylesbury Garden Town of around 16,000 new homes planned for 2033.
The application states that the main works would take place over a 12-month period with completion in 2021.
