View from the riverbank: Will Reading prove as remarkable as Oxford?

Our first online UK Prop Social event prompted some remarkable information and the next looks set to do the same.

At last Thursday’s webinar, we heard the stark prediction from Richard Venables that Oxford could find a fifth of its shopping space empty over the next six to nine months.

Retailing has rarely faced so many troubles and the knock-on effects on landlords and ultimately the pensions funded by their investments paints a very serious picture.

But if lockdown has proved anything, it must be some unexpected benefits. The University of Oxford must surely be rethinking its usage of paper, given the incredible revelation from Harriet Waters that the university is saving £100,000 a month during lockdown by using less.

The line-up of speakers at the Reading Social on Tuesday, June 2, is no less likely to raise eyebrows.

It takes the form of an ‘ask the experts’ session focused on Reading.
