New date for Manydown application

A new date has been set for councillors in Basingstoke to consider plans for up to 3,250 homes at Manydown.

The outline planning application will now go before a virtual meeting of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s development control Committee on Wednesday, July 8 at 2pm.

The meeting has been convened solely to discuss the Manydown application which includes commercial space, retail and community facilities, schools and a 250-acre country park. It had initially been scheduled for March 24 but postponed due to the pandemic.

Since the Government allowed virtual council meetings, the committee has met online twice and the July 8 meeting will be live streamed through You Tube and can be watched through the council website.

Chair of the committee Cllr Paul Miller said: “Manydown is the largest site allocated for housing in the Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan and, as it was ready for the committee to consider in March, we were keen for it to be scheduled for a meeting as soon as possible.

“The virtual meetings that we have held so far with smaller applications have gone well so we now feel in a position that we can reschedule this as a virtual meeting.

“Given the size and complexity of the development and the amount of information councillors will need to consider, the meeting on Wednesday 8 July will only consider this outline planning application.”

The application was made jointly by B&DBC and Hampshire County Council, acting as landowner, in 2017 and has been amended and updated since.
