Albion Land has won permission to redevelop much of its Kingston Bagpuize Business Park in Abingdon into modern industrial units.

Vale of White Horse District Council’s planning committee voted at its December 2 meeting to approve the plans for 24 small units to replace a series of Nissen huts and other buildings from the site’s days as an airfield.

The new units, all B1, B2 and B8 (business, general industrial and storage or distribution) uses, ranging from 258 sq m to 541 sq m, will be housed in seven buildings. The development will increase floorspace from 4,050 sq m to 8,539 sq m.

Councillors heard it will create between 130 and 240 new jobs.

A phased redevelopment will allow existing occupiers to relocate within the park.

Emma Lancaster from Quod, representing Albion Land, told the meeting: “They have extensive first-hand knowledge of the local markets which they have applied here to ensure the proposals meet the needs of the existing occupiers and local businesses whose demands are not currently being met due to a shortage of suitable floorspace.

“Flexibility of use is key here to ensure the scheme meets the rapidly changing needs of the market. The development represents significant investment in the local economy during a period of unprecedented economic uncertainty that has been brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
