Plans have been submitted by firms First Base and Patron Capital for MK Gateway, a mixed-use scheme in central Milton Keynes.
The new gateway will refurbish and extend Saxon Court, a former council building, to create 185,000 sq. ft of Grade A office space- incorporating offices, co-working, and R&D space, as well as an innovation hub.
The scheme has been designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, to respond to occupier demand for flexible floorspace which maximises natural light and fresh air ventilation, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
There will be 288 build-to-rent apartments incorporated into the scheme, with a 31% affordable allocation. It will incorporate vertical sky gardens, a green roof, and a mix of indoor and outdoor public spaces at street level for pop-up markets, food stalls, and events.
The whole scheme has been designed around renewable energy, helping support Milton Keynes’ target to be a net-zero carbon city by 2030.
