Councillors meet this week to decide if they would have approved plans to redevelop Reading Station Shopping Park (RSSP) for hundreds of flats.
Aviva Investors has taken its plans for between 750 and 950 flats, plus offices, retail and community facilities on the 1.77-hectare Vastern Road site to appeal over the council’s non-determination.
The initial application, submitted in February 2020, included a hotel but amendments, submitted in October 2021, omitted the hotel from the scheme and reduced its overall maximum floorspace from 115,000 sq m to 90,850 sq m.
The plan will now go to an inquiry and Reading Borough Council’s planning applications committee is to meet on Tuesday, February 15 to decide what its decision would have been.
Officers have recommended councillors vote that their decision would have been to refuse. Officers’ objections are largely around height scale and massing.
