Plans for a new film studios development have been submitted to the Royal Borough.
Greystoke Land has applied to develop 43 hectares of agricultural land in the Green Belt near Bray into a 69,000 sq m studio complex to be known as Holyport Studios.
Under the outline proposals the site, which straddles Gays Lane and is north of the B3024 Forest Green Road, will be developed for 15 sound stages, offices, a virtual reality studio, storage space, workshops, specialist studio facilities, a ‘backlot’ for outdoor filming, a nature park and a cricket pitch and pavilion.
The overall site will include three main areas. Sites A and B will house a media village and sound stages respectively and both will have workshops, while Site C will be where the open areas including the backlot, cricket pitch and nature park are housed.
The planning statement by JLL states: “It is clear that the lack of studio supply will become increasingly problematic for the UK film & TV sector to continue producing high-end and world-class content, and to maintain its status as one of the largest global competitors.
“There is consequently un-wavered appetite for the delivery of new-built space from potential occupiers. This presents a well-placed opportunity to foster the delivery of new purpose-built film studios in the UK where it is needed.”
Architect on the scheme is 4D Studio.
A long-awaited extension to Pinewood Studios has also been submitted to the Royal Borough. That hybrid application includes full permission for a 25.6-hectare nature reserve and outline consent for backlots and workshops plus 126,817 sq m of film production buildings.
