RER London Ltd and Rolfe Judd architects have made several changes to the plans for the renovated and refurbished former Surrey County Council Offices in Kingston.
In January 2023 they made the following amendments:
- Building A1 – reduced to 6 storeys (reduction of 2 storeys)
- Building A2 – reduced to 4 storeys with plant enclosure set back from southern boundary
- Building A3 – Reduced to 3 storeys with projecting western wing removed
- Nos.5 and 7 Milner Road now retained as single family houses with alterations to rear gardens
- Enhanced landscaping along the southern site boundary facing Woodbines Avenue
- Repurposing of residential apartments in 1893 building to commercial space
The proposal is for Listed Building Consent for the refurbishment, restoration and extension of the County Hall (Grade II*) to provide flexible commercial use (class E) and residential use (class C3), demolition of The Canteen Building and The Computer Wing Building, erection of replacement buildings of between 2 and 6 storeys for residential use (class C3), alterations to the existing boundary including Nos. 5 & 7 Milner Road, new means of access, associated public realm and landscaping, highway works, car and cycle parking and all ancillary and associated work.
Built in 1893 the original building has been added to over many years.
RER London acquired the 300,000 sq.ft. Grade II listed site from Surrey County Council in March 2021.
Detailed plans are expected to be finalised in the second quarter of 2023.
