Leading residential developer London Square has agreed to a £110m joint venture with Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, on the former Richmond College campus site in Twickenham, South-west London.

The former Richmond upon Thames College campus site in Egerton Road, near Twickenham Stadium and Harlequins’ Twickenham Stoop, was given planning approval in August 2022 by the London Borough of Richmond for 212 homes, 51 per cent of which would be affordable.

London Square will develop the scheme in partnership with Latimer and sell the private homes element. Clarion Housing will manage the affordable homes.

Demolition of the college blocks is underway to build the sustainable mixed tenure development. It comprises 108 affordable homes, including 28 homes for London Affordable Rent and 80 for Shared Ownership, with another 104 homes for private sale. The first homes are expected to be completed in 2026.

The attractive scheme has been designed by leading architects BPTW, with Levitt Bernstein providing the landscape design. The development will be all Net Zero Carbon compatible homes. The site is a short walk to Twickenham station, with regular services to London Waterloo.

The development will be known as Twickenham Square and will be the fourth scheme London Square has partnered with Latimer to deliver. They are already working together to produce the shared ownership homes at London Square Croydon and provide 100 per cent affordable housing on schemes in Neasden and the second phase at Staines-upon-Thames.

Adam Lawrence, founder and chief executive of London Square, said: “We look forward to building a really outstanding scheme at Twickenham Square. Our continued partnership with Latimer and Clarion Housing Group means that we will be delivering much-needed affordable homes alongside homes for private sale, all reflecting the outstanding quality and design that London Square is committed to building, irrespective of tenure.

“This will be our fourth scheme within the London Borough of Richmond, where we have already delivered the award-winning restoration and conversion of The Star and Garter Building on Richmond Hill, plus developments in Teddington and another currently underway in Twickenham.”

Richard Cook, group director of development at Clarion Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to be partnering again with London Square to deliver this transformative project at Twickenham Square. This partnership allows us to deliver new affordable housing and the first Net Zero Carbon homes for the local community.”

“Twickenham Square represents our continued commitment to building vibrant, inclusive communities, reducing carbon emissions, and enriching lives through sustainable development.”
