The Acton and Park Royal Creative Enterprise Zone (CEZ) has rapidly turned ambition into reality by providing affordable, creative spaces for businesses to thrive.
Since its inception in 2022, the CEZ has collaborated with nearly 100 creative businesses, offering 1-2-1 business support and over £250,000 in loans to creative SMEs. This initiative has been instrumental in advancing businesses, as highlighted by Hanaa Hazra Bawamia, an illustrator who has benefited from CEZ support and tools.
The CEZ is part of a broader strategy to foster growth across six key sectors: creative and digital, green and circular economy, life sciences, construction, retail, and health and social care. This strategy aims to ensure that all residents can benefit from the expected growth. The CEZ is supported by the Mayor of London and the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, with Imperial College London investing in the area as part of the WestTech London innovation district. This collaboration is turning the CEZ into a hub where creativity meets science.
Minerva Works, a creative workspace within the CEZ, exemplifies the zone’s success. It houses businesses that transform local industrial waste into art and useful items, showcasing how regeneration can create new creative spaces. The hub is managed by Republic of Park Royal, a local affordable space provider. Jonathan Brewin, director of Republic of Park Royal, emphasises the importance of investing in the community to create a vibrant, evolving neighbourhood.
Council leader Peter Mason and councillor Kamaljit Nagpal have both highlighted the CEZ’s role in supporting local talent and transforming ideas into thriving businesses. The CEZ is not just a workspace initiative but a catalyst for growth, innovation, and community, ensuring that arts and creative industries remain accessible to all. It is creating jobs, supporting emerging artists, and building a stronger, fairer economy for everyone.
The CEZ is opening doors to skills, jobs, and a vibrant future for the borough, making a significant difference in the local economy and community.
