Hounslow Council’s Leader and Deputy Leader are calling on residents and businesses to voice their opinions on the redevelopment proposals for the Treaty Centre.

They express concern that the current plans might miss a significant opportunity to enhance Hounslow town centre. While they support the idea of regeneration, they criticize the proposals for focusing too much on tall, densely packed buildings and small flats, which may not provide sufficient benefits for the community.

The main issues highlighted include the absence of affordable housing, a lack of family-friendly homes, insufficient space for shops, restaurants, and leisure activities, and inadequate facilities for small businesses, despite Hounslow’s strategic location near Heathrow. The proposed tall buildings could also create dark, overshadowed streets.

Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, leader of Hounslow Council, emphasizes the importance of this decision, stating it will shape the town centre for decades. He urges the community to participate in the planning process to ensure the redevelopment meets the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors.

Cllr Tom Bruce, deputy leader and cabinet member for assets, regeneration and development, agrees that the Treaty Centre needs regeneration but criticizes the current proposal for lacking affordable homes, family-sized properties, and adequate space for jobs and leisure. He warns that the proposal could be a missed opportunity to create a vibrant and diverse town centre.

Residents, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to review the proposals and submit their feedback through the planning portal. They can express support, concerns, or suggest improvements.

The application will be reviewed by the Local Planning Authority and the Planning Committee, with Cllr Bruce recusing himself from discussions or decisions on the matter.
