The Byfleet Neighbourhood Plan outlines planning policies for the Byfleet Neighbourhood Area, addressing design, the village centre, employment sites, natural elements, flood management, green spaces, and heritage.
If supported, it will be formally adopted by the Council and become part of the statutory Development Plan for the area, guiding planning applications. The plan’s progression follows public consultation in August and September 2025 and an independent examination by the Byfleet Residents’ Neighbourhood Forum.
An independent Examiner confirmed that, with recommended modifications accepted by the Council, the plan meets legal standards and should proceed to a local referendum.
Cllr Louise Morales, Woking Borough Council’s portfolio holder for planning, emphasised the importance of neighbourhood planning in empowering communities to shape their future. She expressed satisfaction with the plan’s progress, crediting the Byfleet Residents’ Neighbourhood Forum and local contributors.
Morales urged Byfleet residents to participate in the referendum on Thursday, 7 May, to voice their opinions on the plan. The referendum will take place within the Byfleet polling districts, which align with the Neighbourhood Area.
This initiative highlights community involvement in local planning and decision-making, aiming to reflect residents’ needs and aspirations in future developments.
