Brighton & Hove City Council is looking for local residents to help shape a new Whitehawk Neighbourhood Board, which will oversee a £20 million Pride in Place investment over the next decade.

The board will put residents at the centre of decisions about how the funding is used, aiming to improve the neighbourhood in ways that reflect local priorities. The council is also still recruiting for an Independent Chair.

People interested in joining are being asked to email prideinplace@brighton-hove.gov.uk with a CV of no more than two pages and a short covering letter explaining their interest, their connection to Whitehawk or similar communities, and the skills they could bring. The deadline to express interest is 9 am on Monday, 1 June.

No prior experience is required, and training, guidance, and support will be provided. Board members and the chair will help develop the Whitehawk Pride in Place Plan, which will set out community priorities and the projects to be funded. The expected time commitment is about 2 days per month.

Councillor Bella Sankey said the board is an important chance for Whitehawk residents to get involved, with local knowledge and local voices at the heart of the programme. Chris Ward MP described the funding as a once-in-a-generation investment that should be directed where it matters most.

The board will include residents, community groups, businesses, public services, the local MP and ward councillors. At least 51 per cent of members must live or work in Whitehawk, keeping the board genuinely resident-led. Once established, it will organise community engagement events and conversations to help shape the final plan. The council must confirm the proposed board membership to the government by 17 July 2026.
