Milton Keynes City Council and Higgins Partnerships have begun work on 66 new council homes, based at the former Cripps Lodge site in Netherfield.
The development is planned to include sustainable, high-quality homes for older residents, alongside those with reduced mobility, this will be achieved with the inclusion of step-free layouts, accessible bathrooms and kitchens, and open outdoor spaces.
There will be a mix of bungalows, houses and apartments across the development, all with off-road parking, private gardens, and access to open green spaces, alongside energy-efficient measures that will keep bills low for tenants.
Construction is projected to continue through to 2028, and local residents will have opportunities to view designs as the development progresses.
Higgins Partnerships are working on the project as the Council chose them through their More for MK scheme, which asked for contractors to provide wider community benefits, including new jobs, apprenticeships, and support for local business.
The site, Cripps Lodge, formerly provided sheltered housing, but was demolished in 2020 due to disuse. The new development forms part of the Councils wider work to tackle homelessness and aid families in temporary accommodation, which has been seen in other local areas, including the completion of 183 homes at the Lakes Estate, and the purchase of 21 flats in Fairfields last year.
