The East West Railway Company, the firm behind a nationally significant infrastructure project improving rail connections between Oxford and Cambridge, is holding a route-wide consultation until 9th June 2026.
During the consultation, East West Rail will reveal updated designs and information, including new station visualisations, fly-through animations of the route and plans for phased construction. There will be 12 in-person events across the route as well as three online webinars.
Updated plans will see an East West Rail service of four trains per hour across the whole route, with an additional fifth train when required. Due to increased demand, each train will now how five carriages rather than four.
Further updates include a brand-new Bedford station, a new station at Stewartby to serve the Universal theme park, as well as three new stations at Woburn Sands, Ridgmont and Lidlington.
David Hughes, chief executive of the East West Railway Company, said: “These updated proposals mark a major step forward for East West Rail to help ensure communities see the benefits of the project sooner as we finalise the design.
“Faster delivery, more frequent services and new stations will help unlock housing, support new jobs and attract investment, while giving residents and businesses better connections between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge.”
A development consent order application will be submitted in 2027.
