Approval for Persimmon Homes Wessex’s reserved matters planning application marks the next step in delivering an initial 161 high‑quality homes at Ashton Park, south-east of Trowbridge.

The news marks a significant development in the delivery of up to 2,500 new homes in the area following the granting of outline planning consent last year to Persimmon Homes and Barratt Redrow in a joint venture between the two companies.

Once complete, the long-term scheme will have delivered capital contributions of £25.6 million from developers, and a Community Infrastructure Levy contribution of £7.5m for local projects. They will also deliver a £36.5m relief road, including a new section for the A350, bypassing the existing West Ashton crossroads.

£5.4m will also be ringfenced for the Council to provide off-site affordable housing, in addition to the 27% of on-site homes reserved for local housing association partners.

Persimmon has a local presence in Wiltshire, with active developments in Chippenham, Warminster, and near Hilperton.

Seb Spiller, managing director at Persimmon Homes Wessex said: “Our plans to bring much-needed new homes to Trowbridge has been many years in the making, so we are very excited to have reached this milestone allowing us to start construction on the first phase at Ashton Park.

“Whilst this first phase is for 161 properties, this is an extremely ambitious project that not only works to serve the housing needs of Trowbridge and wider area, but also significant investment that will generate funds for public services, community amenities, and local jobs.

“Persimmon’s scheme at Ashton Park will leave a positive and lasting legacy and we cannot wait to get started on site.”
