Hounslow Council has appointed AECOM, alongside Faulkner Browns Architects, to progress plans for a new Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre.
The team will now develop the design and complete the technical and planning work needed to redevelop the site.
The new centre is intended to replace the existing facility, which has served Brentford since 1987, with a modern leisure space built around local needs. Early proposals include swimming pools with moveable floors, interactive water-play areas, a larger gym, a sports hall, fitness studios, better changing rooms, and new family and community spaces.
The project supports the Council’s Fairer Future ambition by investing in Brentford and improving opportunities for healthy, active living. It is also part of a wider regeneration approach that aims to bring visible benefits to local people. As well as the leisure centre, the wider scheme includes new homes and improved public realm, with the residential element helping fund the project and reduce borrowing costs.
Community engagement remains central to the plans. Residents, schools and community groups will be involved, with a second round of consultation due in October and November. This follows engagement in 2024-25, when more than 900 people shared views. Swimming, accessible fitness facilities and family-friendly spaces emerged as key priorities and are shaping the developing design.
Councillors Tom Bruce and Salman Shaheen said the ageing building is no longer fit for purpose, but the new centre offers a chance to create a facility that reflects local priorities and supports health, wellbeing and community use. Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre will remain open for now, with no closure date set.
